Meet Giuseppe Njualem - The Catholic Seminarian Behind HomilyWriterAI

Discover how a seminarian's vision, guided by Seminary professors and theologians, is transforming homily preparation for priests worldwide

A Tool Built by a Seminarian, Guided by Theologians

Giuseppe Njualem is a Catholic Seminarian for the Diocese of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. During his studies in Canada, he experienced firsthand the time-intensive nature of homily preparation - often spending over 3 hours researching commentaries, magisterial documents, and Church Fathers' writings for a single Sunday homily.

Combining his coding background with his seminary formation, Giuseppe created HomilyWriterAI with the guidance and theological input of his Seminary professors, close priest friends, and serious theologians. This collaboration ensures that the tool is not just a technical solution, but a theologically sound resource that maintains the depth and richness of Catholic tradition.

Theologically Grounded, Pastorally Focused

HomilyWriterAI was built through extensive consultation with Seminary professors and theologians to ensure theological accuracy and pastoral sensitivity. It's not a replacement for priestly insight, but a co-creator that saves precious time in research while preserving the priest's unique voice and spiritual depth.

Hello There Everyone,

My name is Giuseppe Njualem and I am a Catholic Seminarian for the great Diocese of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.

I am also, by the Grace of God, the builder of HomilyWriterAI, even though the creation has been informed by many of my friend priests who required a tool like this in their lives. And by many of my professors.

The story behind HomilyWriterAI is a unique one. During my time studying in Canada, as part of my parish practice, I was commissioned to write a few Sunday homilies for my pastor, who was himself an awesome homilist. While I really enjoyed doing this, it was clear to me that this was easily the most time-consuming aspect of a priestly ministry. I sometimes spent over 3 hours researching and reading through commentaries, magisterial documents and the writings of Church Fathers in order to come up with an insightful homily. And so I couldn't help but imagine that this could be easier and take less time than it was taking. Luckily, I had done some coding before applying to join the Seminary about half a decade ago. This was also the time when ai technology was becoming popular, so I spent some time during my Seminary vacation, working on this tool that I believed would cut the homily creating process by a considerable amount, especially the time spent in research.

Obviously, the challenge is making sure that this did not replace the priest's insight in particular, but rather save him more time to pray on the passages, and of course to fulfil other parts of his priestly ministry. That is why the homily creation process is structured to take everything into account that a priest would in his process of writing a homily. So think of HomilyWriterAI as a co-creator, and not a replacement to your work.

Now, this project is dear to my heart because I know I will be needing a tool like this in my own future ministry, at least on those days when other aspects of priestly ministry leave no time for homily preparation. I guess we could contend ourselves with saying the Spirit will guide on such occasions, but it is probably negligence on our part if a few clicks could help us be more ready and potentially even more receptive to the Spirit's promptings.

I decided to make this introductory video because many of you priests have reached out to me by email saying how much you love this tool and how much time it has saved you. Thank you so much for your feedback and please if there is anything that can make the tool even better for you, don't hesitate to reach out to me directly.

I wish you all a blessed day, and God bless you. Que tengas un día bendito!
